This workshop was part of my mixed media class for kids at The Viva Vida Art Gallery in Pointe Claire. We glued fun foam shapes, lace, twine, etc. to a bristol board base. We rolled acrylic paint over the entire surface or painted the shapes separately with different colours. We quickly placed a same-sized cardstock overtop and ran the two pieces through the pasta maker. The kids loved turning the handle and seeing what came out the other side!
I really enjoyed taking an encaustic workshop with Susan Ukkola in Ottawa. The tree piece incorporates a photo transfer. For the leaf piece I made the abstract background during the workshop then completed the piece back home. I made the wire leaf with copper wire and traced the shape onto the background. I added more burnt sienna
wax as a backdrop for the leaf then drilled holes into the wood and secured the wire leaf. My embossing heat gun fused the work into a cohesive piece!
